First Annual Costume Swap

Sept 2026 Costume Swap: Girl browsing costumes, with boy in banana costume behind

Katy N. coordinated our first annual costume swap on Sept 13 at Rennebohm Park shelter. The draw: why buy costumes that will be used once and once only and then get discarded (or stashed in the basement forever)? Why do this when you can donate outgrown stuff and shop from an amazing array of already proven hits? There was a pretty big inventory to choose from. And choices were made. In came kids and parents; out went pirates, walking bananas, superheroes, and other fantastical beings. It’s hard to say how many people came. A lot of new folks came by, many of whom had been at the playground and were drawn in. There was plenty of time for coffee, conversation, and play.

This was a huge success. One of the sustainability mantras is “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” To this we add “PARTAY!”
