Our Projects
Dish Lending Library
This Lending Dish project is a low waste initiative that aims to reduce reliance on single-use plastics and paper, thus sending less to the landfill. The Library consists entirely of donated items, giving new life to items that might otherwise have been discarded.
Neighbors can borrow items for personal gatherings at no charge. They can be reserved, picked up and returned after being cleaned by the user. Items in the library are also available to borrow for Sustainable Hill Farms events, potlucks and other neighborhood sponsored events.
The library has reusable plates, bowls, cups, mugs, glassware, cutlery, serving ware and table linens. Because all items have been donated, color and patterns vary.
Current status
Gloria has gathered a large inventory of items and is building a good storage system for them. We need yet to develop a means to promote this service, to develop general guidelines, and to set up a means for “checking out” and returning the dishes.
How you can help
Currently we do not need volunteers. But if you are interested in this project, let’s talk
Tool sharing/library
The Tool Sharing Library offers a database of neighbors and items which they own and are willing to loan for a set period of time. This includes items for home repair, gardening, crafts, landscaping and DIY projects. We provide access to expensive or infrequently used items while fostering sharing and skill building. )Talk to Joe
Important way to cut down on costs and needless ownership and to strengthen community connections.

Education
Believing that sustainability is a shared responsibility, our goal is to encourage active participation in building a more sustainable neighborhood. We offer monthly educational events to foster awareness, build skills and help us all make responsible, informed choices.
We also support and encourage participation in events sponsored by other local sustainable organizations.
Current status
This has been in place for a year and has been quite successful drawing large attendance. It has allowed us to explore important dimensions of sustainability and has helped our community grow. It requires work to plan and schedule each event and to line up the speakers.

Their mission is to restore ecosystem function by changing private lawns info functional wildlife friendly habitats.
This is ongoing work. We are working hard to build this into our neighborhood practice, through educational events, field trips, and mutual support

Current status
Scott has developed a web site, but it will need some more work. More importantly, we need to streamline our communication by making optimal use of existing channels and tying in web, email, and physical bulletin boards.
